Remembrance Services

The Englefield Green Remembrance on Friday 8th and Sunday 10th November 2019

Schools Remembrance Service Friday 8th November 2019

On the last school day before Remembrance Sunday the Village Schools will undertake their own Remembrance Service at 1045am.

The children will remember the 117 village sons who died during WW1 and the 40 Village Sons and Daughters who died in WW2. They will read the names and short details of the 3 Village Sons and 17 other servicemen who died 100 years ago during 1919 and lay school wreaths on each of the memorials plus later they will lay individual wreaths on the 91 CWGC graves in our cemetery. The Remembrance Service will be conducted by the Rev Judith Alford.

Remembrance Sunday 10th November 2019 will mark the 101st Anniversary of the end of WW1 during which 117 Village Residents died. It is also the 74th Anniversary of the end of WW2 during which 40 Village Residents died. To mark this and like other years the village will join the nation in Remembrance Sunday commemorations.  The service around the memorials will be conducted by Rev Judith Alford, followed by a church service.

On each of the above dates those taking part will gather at 1045am but the service will start just before 1100am.

Friday 8th November, schools will gather near their school gates ready to walk behind the Piper            (Will Bissett). Englefield Green Infants party will bring their wreaths on Thursday 7th and place them on the memorial then return to their school.

Sunday 10th November, the marching party near Fletchers Garage ready to march behind the piper to the memorials at the front of the cemetery.  Public gather near the cemetery gate

Both commemoration services will be held between the CWGC Cross of Sacrifice and the new Village War Memorial. The Marching party will halt between the two memorials. This will ensure neither memorial is excluded from the service and wreath laying.

Should it be raining on the 8th Nov, the school service will be held inside St Jude’s Church.

Friday 8th November after the service the village school children will follow the piper around the cemetery laying small wreaths on each of the 91 CWGC graves.

Sunday 10th November after the short service of remembrance conducted by Rev Judith Alford, there will be a church service in St Jude’s Church.

We would like to see as many of the village there to support the village children on Friday 8th November, and to honour and remember those who gave their life for our freedom on Sunday 10th November.
